"This story begins as an old magazine, discarded and forgotten, thrown out of sight and out of mind. But under the African sun this paper is reclaimed, renewed and transformed.
We, the women of Kenya and Uganda, rescue this beautiful paper and give it new life with our hands. We gather old magazines, slice the pages into narrow pieces and roll each bead one by one. A final coat of clear lacquer transforms the pages from delicate paper to strong, durable, water-resistant beads-each one unique from the rest.
Just as we revive and transform discarded paper, the paper has also revived and transformed our lives. We grow and thrive with our families thanks to this jewelry which provides income, healthcare and education.
We're all doing our small part for the planet by reclaiming and reusing what would otherwise be wasted."
